
Katrin Scholz began to
play the violin at the early age of five years. During her childhood she already
visited the “Spezialschule für Musik Berlin” and afterwards
studied at the “Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler” with her
teacher Prof. Werner Scholz for many years. After that she studied with the
Slovenian violinist Igor Ozim.
At the age of 14 years she already won the second price at the International
Wieniawski-Violin Competition Lublin. Later on, Katrin Scholz gained the first
prize at renowned international violin competitions, such as the International
Musical Competition Tokyo and the Kuhlenkampff Violin Competition Cologne.
Up to now she has played with renowned orchestras, under them the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester, the Dresdner Philharmonie, the MDR-Radio-Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, where she was joined by conductors like Vladimir Fedosseyev, Peter Schreier, Gerd Albrecht, Miguel Gómez-Martínez, Ulf Schirmer, Ejii Oue, Milan Horvat and Ken Takaseki.
She has participated in
many festivals, for example in Schwetzingen, Santiago de Compostela, The “Carinthischer
Sommer”, Tibor Varga Sion and the “MDR-Musiksommer”. Guest
performances have led her i.a. to the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Theatre Chatelet
in Paris and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as well as to Chicago,
Detroit, Atlanta and Montevideo.
Katrin Scholz has recorded numerous CDs hitherto, i.a. the complete violin
concerts of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn, the violin concerts
of Camille Saint-Saens (n. 3) and Bohuslav Martinu (n. 2) as well as recently
the violin concerts of Ludwig van Beethoven and Max Bruch (n.1)
Since 1995 Katrin Scholz is the artistic director of the renowned Berlin Chamber
Orchestra, arranging her own concert series in the concert halls of Berlin
and undertaking numerous guest performances at home and abroad. Since 1998
Katrin Scholz holds a professorship at the Hochschule für Künste
Bremen.
Katrin Scholz plays on a violin of the workshop of Giovanni Battista Guadagnini
(Piacenza 1743).
